I ran across a 27-2 Smith today with a Nickel finish and a 5-inch barrel. The grips are not original, but the gun is otherwise about 98%. Pinned and recessed, $495 (I am going to go look at this gun today, but when the owner tells me 98%, I know it's 98%). Is the 5-inch rare on this version, I have never dealt with the 27's much.

Not rare, but a desirable length. A 27-2 could have come with Magnas or Targets, with or without diamonds (non-diamond styles with blue or stainless circle insert). Do you know the serial number? What trigger, hammer and stocks does it have?
I think it’s worth more than $500.

The 5" model 27 has always been a personal favorite. For $500, it would have left the store with me.
If you do not go and get it in the morning, at least pass the info onto one of your forum brothers. We promise to take good care of it.

Good deal on the 27. You will enjoy the big N-frame.The 5"er is well balanced.

While not common, 5" 27-2's are not rare.-Dick

I told the owner to put it in the safe. I am going down to look at the gun hopefully on Saturday, if I like, then I will get it for sure.

I have been wanting a 5" 27 for a long time. I don't care for nickel, but for that price I would have whipped my wallet out so fast that I would have had to have had my wife sew the pocket back on my jeans!

Holy smokes Batman! David, that is one of my grail guns, buy it, don't like it and sell it to me at a loss! If it is in good mechanical condition add it to your herd. Looking forward to the mandatory pic's.

No offense, but did you guys notice the dates on David's posts?
He either bought it or passed on it over 6 years ago.
