Default Scoping a 27

I really enjoy shooting my 8 3/8" 27-2, especially pushing the distance and seeing what I can hit. I've been toying with the idea of getting some glass but have never owned a handgun scope before. The FX II by Leupold caught my eye, but I'm not sure which power would suit my tastes. 2x20mm or 4x28mm

Aren't there scope mounts available that do not require additional drilling etc?

I have a model 17 and a model 53 both with 8 3/8" barrels that had scopes on them when I bought them. They both had non gunsmithed mounts on them. The only problem is that both rear sights were missing. There were no extra holes drilled in either revolver. I have photos if you would like to see them.

Yes, it is your gun to do with as you please. But just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.

Please don't...

l assume the gun is not a RM or some other 'one of a kind' weapon. lf you need a scope on your gun, just do it. lts not some sacred item where you will lose your salvation over. lts just a gun. A very fine one too for mounting a scope. Dad has a Mod 25 with a scope on it. l just loved shooting it at milk jugs. lt had a couple xtra holes drilled on top for the scope. One day he took the scope off and put the rear site back on, covering those xtra holes. The gun still shot and functioned as normal. Only way to see the xtra holes is to open the cylinder and turn it over... l hope one day he gives it to me. Xtra holes and all !!!!!!!

I would recommend the Leupold M8 X2 extended eye relief. Just so happens I also have (2) of these I would like to sell. PM me if interested.

I have one on a 6" Python and one on a 8 3/8" 29-3. They are GREAT.

Have fun and be safe.

I was skeptical at first too Saxon. The 27 being my baby, I would take the utmost care if I decided to put rings on it so that it will look just as sharp when/if I took them off. I have too much love for the checkered top strap to risk damaging it. That being said, I would still like to try a scope.

The local gun store has no smithing mounts for k, l and n frames that replaces the rear sight so this was gonna be my first choice just because it's simple and still aesthetically pleasing.

I wasn't previously aware of this model, do you know how well the eye relief compares to the fx ii models?
I would mostly be using the gun for target shooting around the farm and the occasional groundhog so I don't want something I need a bench rest to see through.
