I'm interested is getting a revolver and need advice on best steps to take (used preferred, pre lock/mim, ported vs not, where to begin looking,expected price, etc.). Any input will bw appreciated.

Well I'll reply. I recently got a 686-1 4" at a favorite pawn shop for $250. It was dirty and had rubber grips on it. The stainless cleaned up and polished real nice and with some of VM's refinished grips it looks great. 686s are seen regularly at gun shops and shows but most will cost more than I paid.
