I have a rather beaten up Chief's Special with serial # 733XX that I bought a couple of years ago. Could someone give me a year when it was made, please? Also, I have thought about having it restored. The finish is pretty bad but it is mechanically very sound. Any suggestions about where to have it evaluated and restored would be appreciated. It was the OD/BUG for a LEO for many years. I would like to see this old veteran restored as close to its new condition as possible. Thanks, Frizz

Around 1955. You could check with Fords, but a refinish usually doesn't make financial sense - I suspect it would be around $300. Just shoot it and enjoy it for what it is.

Thanks for the info. I have thought the same thing, just use it as is. The only reason for thinking about restoration is that I would like a nice S&W made the same year I was. 1955 is a year past my manufacture date. I will have to keep my eye out for something else I suppose.
