My only K-38 Masterpiece had 2" lopped off the barrel. It was advertised as a pre-15, when it's really a pre 14. Need to find one intact, and some period stocks for this one.

As long as we are giving this thread CPR I toss my two cents in..
4/17/59 ship date Mdl 14 no dash, 4 screw frame. Letters as a 5”, TT. TH, TS, Baughman front sight.
Still have not shot it. Need to get that done one of these next days.

Took the Sandersons off to clean them up and put a set of period correct magnas on for a while.

K-38s, the best target revolver ever created ! Have had at least one since 1977. These are a few of mine currently.
The last one is my only one-liner and has a modified hammer, liked the way it looked and got it for a fair price off gunbroker.

K-38 Photo thread
Shipped in H. H. Harris in November 1956 and engraved by Claus and Emil Willig in the late 1950’s for the engraving shop of Kurt Jaeger in Mainz, Germany. If you’re interested in reading more about this gun but missed the thread, it is at Willig Engraved K-38 Masterpiece Pre-Model 14

I seen this thread and just had to go dig out my model 14's. Just the guns I was not going to get boxes, tools, paperwork. I figure just the gun pics is enough. From left to right model 14-3 3t's, model 14 no dash, model 14-3 long tube, model 14-7. I really like 14s!!!!

I only have two of them. A Pre-14 ser. # K5119x and a 14-2 that was ordered with a 5" barrel on 11/7/62 and shipped 11//21/62. It was one of two in a special order for Darley & Co., Melrose Park, IL. Pardon the poor photo's. The letter on the 14-2 came back Open on Company records but leave it to Bill Cross, he came up with the order invoice for me showing the 2 guns ordered and the barrel cut fee.

I only own 2 K-38s (sort of) at this time...
In the right picture we see a trio of Masterpieces K-38, -32, and -22, with the "big brother" K-38 on top. It was the first one I got, over 40 years ago (and it was 30 years old then!) The K-32 in the middle started life and left Springfield as a Model 14-3, but as I've mentioned before, it got "promoted" to be an homage to the Model 16-3, using a NOS barrel and a rebored K-22 cylinder. The original parts before the transformation are shown together in the left picture.

Bought this 14-4 at a little store in downtown Lewistown, MT in the very early 80's. It came with Magna's and I bought the period correct target stocks a few years ago. The pictured '48 K22 was purchased new by my late father shortly after returning as a decorated Navy Officer in the Pacific Theater WWII. I've the original Magna's for it as well. Who knows, maybe before I die I'll find a Model 16. Love shooting these. K-frame targets are a good fit for my hands.

This is my Model 14-4 that I found at a gunshow in February, 2019. It came with the box and all the goodies, but was wearing a set of N Frame Target Stocks.  Rather than questioning the seller, I put my money down and took the gun. There were several other potential buyers showing a lot of interest so I jumped right in.
Here it is; with more correct K Frame Stocks. It shipped in 1980 according to the Serial Number.

Yes it is. But the K 38 is timeless.
Too bad many of the older pictures are gone. That is why I dislke the use of "photo host sites".

This is my newest acquisition, it’s my first 14 and in my heart, it’s my first 8-3/8” barreled S&W because I don’t think my gangly 460XVR should count.
Dating to 1971, it came wearing period-correct Magnas but I just don’t like Magnas, so they live in the original numbered box that came with it. I put these K-Presentation stocks on it and I think they look great but they are probably wrong for this revolver.
I was preparing myself for the possibility of having to swap the trigger out, but lucky for me, it isn’t the massive cheese grater target trigger, and that means it is the one for me! The hammer is also a standard profile, and I prefer to shoot double action so I love it.
Best part? I found this beauty right here on the classifieds section of the Smith & Wesson forum!

This is reaching back some.
A 14-3 shipped April of 1970. Nothing noteworthy about it except I got it for a hundred bucks off Gunbroker. That was the starting price and nobody else bid. I offered to let the seller out of the deal but he insisted on completing the transaction. Big dealer with a couple thousand sales. Probably starts his guns at what he paid for them.

My 14-3, from 1977. Was a GB purchase. Pictures on site were terrible. I contacted seller. He assured that it was a clean gun. So, for $410 shipped and insured, it was mine! It shoots real well. It has not been on the rocks for a while. Bob

Some of the best buys on Gunbroker are taking a little risk with an auction with horrendous pictures. Bad pictures keep other bidders away. You take a risk, but if you are a gun fanatic, a few hundred on some guns here and there ain't no big thing.
This one you show is a beauty, and I sure love the price!
