Hi guys,

After a long hiatus with S&W revolvers I came across these two today. I was looking to see if anyone can provide me with more info on dates and value. I *think* I got a great deal on them but need multiple opinions.

Please note that I have not cleaned these yet. They still exhibit some surface rust and crud. I hope I have posted in the right section. I don;t know how old these are but my guess is around 1940-1960 time frame?

First one is what I believe to be a pre model 15 as it is not stamped inside the crane as a 15. Trigger is buttery smooth. Serial number is 1399XX. There is no 'K' near the serial number on the butt. I think I'd put this one at 80% condition with the wear on it after some cleaning later. Cylinder is stamped with the serial number as well.

Second is a model 36 square butt with flat latch and diamond grips. Carried alot and it shows with the wear on the bluing on cylinder and some parts of the frame and trigger guard. Rusty spots all over from neglect. I doubt is 100 rds have been thru this gun. I think this one should come in at 85% condition, after some good cleaning and some polishing. Looks like **** now. Serial is 3998XX

Here are some pics since the saying is that if there are no pics, it didn't happen.

I look forward to any and all comments or data you can provide. Thanks!

The Pre-15 (Combat Masterpiece)probably has a K on the butt. It is not always close to the numbers. Made approx. 1952.

The Chief is made between 1962-1969. Probably in the middle of the range.

Thanks. I did take another look at the Pre 15 and I don't see any letter there at all.

I suppose I did alright on these. Got both for a great deal after some homework on a few sights.

Grips on the K38 Combat Masterpiece are smooth Presentation magna grips, which are fairly rare.
