Hi Folks, I could use some help. My boss' dad died and left him a Model 48, 6", blued, Patridge front, black disc Magnas, 5K912XX serial, in its blue box with papers, brush and rod with receipt dated 19. The bad news, due to laying on its papers, there were two spot of rust on the right side of the barrel. I slowly cleaned these off with OOOO and oil, then touched up the tiny light spots with cold blue pen. It looks much better than it did. There is also some odd ding damage at the top rear of the frame on each side under the sight, like someone was trying to drift a pin? I don't know how to post detail photos here, and would be appreciative if someone could post a couple for me (please e-mail)? Its action was all gummed up due to old grease, so I flushed it out and re-lubed it, and it has a very nice action. Does anyone have an idea of what it is worth. Other than the damage, I would have put the gun at 95-97% condition. I see what the Standard catalog says, but the selling prices I've seen online are all over the boards. BTW, no .22lr cylinder with this one. Many thanks, and God Bless, Marc

By the way, the frame is marked Mod 48, but the box, serialed to the gun, is marked 48-2. God Bless, Marc

Don't take less than $500. Some will pay up to $600.

You think that much....even with the damage I mentioned? Of course, the Magnas and box and papers are worth something..... Many thanks for the reply. God Bless, Marc

With the spots on the barrel and no extra cylinder I would say $450-500.00. Having the original box is a plus however. This is a non-pinned barrel gun..?

With the cosmetic problems, I would go about $400-450. With extra cylinder more. It's not exactly a grail gun.

Thanks for the replies folks. The gun is a pinned barrel, marked Mod 48 inside the crane (no dash). The box, serial #'ed to the gun says 48-2. I am guessing it is a mid 70's gun. No diamonds in the Magna's. Black washers. I was thinking the gun is more like $350.00, but maybe they are more desirable than I thought. The damage puts the gun as a shooter in my book. Can anyone post a couple of photos for me? God Bless, Marc

Sounds like shooter grade to me-no more than 350,but then again, I'm not a fan of Model 48s.

The gun itself is worth $450 if it's really 96%. It is by far the very best DA .22 Mag revolver ever made. You can buy a more accurate .22 Mag, but it's a heavy target SA (the Freedom Arm$ model) and it's cost is out of sight. The Model 48 you have is pinned, has no lock, and is no longer made; all of which adds value.
The box, etc. adds at least $50. If you can't get $500 now (and you may not from a dealer), you will if you wait.
