Greetings from another newbie with what I bet is one of your most common questions, date of manufacture for a SW M 14-3 with 6" pinned barrel. The serial number is: IK28248.
It has a bad left grip I need to replace for part two of my question...Where to find it?
Thanks for your patience, I did try a search of the internet first and of previous forum questions. 1magi

Well I just looked at all the m14's at Guns America and realized someone put two different grips on this one. The right side is curved upwards like the top of your thumb and covers the SW roll mark partially; but the left side which is damaged looks like a "Y" or the top of a sling shot. I don't know which was original..1magi

Your gun dates to 1970 and the grips you described with left "Y" cut-out are targets from after 1982. What you need are targets that are the same on the right grip as you have now, but the left grip would look like a football cutout at the top instead of the "Y".

The gun in the pic "on top" is a 14-3 with targets, the bottom gun is a 14-2 with magnas.
