Midway sells this item:
Smith & Wesson Barrel Shroud Assembly S&W J-Frame Model 360PD1-7/8" Barrel Blue
No picture, and it's $83.00 and has a 60 day wait for the part. Is this a flutted barrel? Is it something for looks or does it function like a flutted barrel?
This is a picture I found that may be a barrel shroud.?

The 360 PD has the new "sleeved barrel" and I would guess what you're looking at is the second piece or shroud that goes over the barrel that gives it the more conventional profile. Lots of engineering, cost and other reasons (including reduced weight) for it, but I'll stick to the old conventional, thank you.

The picture you posted looks like a removable compensator. Sometimes a non-ported cap is also available for guns so equipped. Nothing like that is available for a 360PD, but they can be Mag-na-ported.

This shows a two piece barrel. The shroud is the alloy outer piece, the barrel is the rifled threaded pipe. S&W won’t sell the wrenches, so why buy a shroud? Plus these are covered by the lifetime warranty.

These guns also have a shrouded ejector rod as part of the barrel shroud and Bodyguards have a shrouded hammer. It can all be very confusing.

Thanks for the info, it seems I'm always looking for some "trick" add on to "improve" my guns. Think I will appreciate what I have, it works so don't mess with it.
Midway said this part is for the 360PD and they did not know if it would fit the M&P 360 which is what I have. I will use my money to buy reloading equipment, much more for my buck.
