It doesn't look like it. The muzzle and crown are wrong, the lettering and markings on the barrel look to far towards the muzzle and M-17-3's generally have 6 or 8-3/8 inch barrels..

Nice looking gun anyway. A model 17 with a 4 inch barrel is one of the few guns I still want.

Yup, the muzzle has been crowned, so the barrel was probably shortened at the same time.
Would have made more sense, to sell the 17 and buy a 18 4".

From what I can see of the roll-mark on the barrel, it is not perfectly centered. Would like to see shot of the front sight from the top and does it look like it was removed and reinstalled or a new front sight base? Most all the Mod 18's had ramp front sights, but a 4" Mod 17 I'm not sure. Could it be that only the muzzle was re-crowned? I think it has been shortened also.

Maybe the barrel was bulged or ringed near the muzzle. Bobbing it would save the cost of a new barrel.

Whoever did it does nice work.

I'm sure it was cut down. Whoever did it is a talented individual, wish I was so talented.
