Found this in the paper collection, thought it was interesting. All the printed material shows that the M25-5 came about in 1978, I'm sure that date is noted due to the internal factory Engineering Order date, but notice that they got around to doing a formal press release in May of 1979 for this model.

Neat. I had no idea OCR technology was in place that long ago. A great shot of the revolver too. Those were still good days, in the handgunning world - to me, anyway.

Rob,
thats pretty cool! The intro of the gun is exactly one year before Mt. St. Helens blew too.

The Model 25-5 may have been announced in 1979, but it was a while before significant quantities were shipped. I didn't see one for sale locally before July, 1982, a blue 6 incher, which I bought. Still have it, too.

Mine was made in 1980 and the previous owner sent it back to S&W and had a 6" & 8 3/8" barrels fitted,it sports a 4" now. It came with the extra barrels and the presentation case when I purchased it.

Too bad they couldn't have been bothered to put some cylinders in with properly sized throats but I like mine anyway.

SmithNut, thanks for sharing that bit of history!

I received my 25-5 new for Christmas of 1984 from my wife. Six inch blue made circa 1981.
it has been my favorite N frame since.
regards,
Ralph

Very nice...I think "old paperwork" is just as much fun to collect as the guns are. It also tells a story about S&W, if you get enough of it and read it. The history is fascinating and it is fun to speculate about what was going on at the factory in the past and what was going on the minds of S&W's excecutives. It is a whole dimension of collecting that most don't experience.

I love the part about using the longer cylinder so that handloaders can use the longer and heavier bullets.

Been tryin to like this one...but I don't
reload so I use my 29 and 58 more than anything else. I would not think there are tons of nickel 4' out there.

I have one of the 125th anniversary models, always thought it was odd they would choose a Colt caliber for that purpose. It shoots well, but should have been a .44 S&W Special!

How can anyone be so low down mean and obnoxious as to make you own that UGLY thang. Tell you what I'll do. Since I am south of San Antonio, I can just drive to where you are and take that ugly thang off your hands so you don't have to look at it anymore.

Least I can do fer a feller Texican!
