DA Trigger Pull on Model 36

I recently bought one of the new Model 36's. Love the gun but the DA trigger pull is very heavy and it "stacks".

Will it get better if I install some snap caps and cycle it a bunch or do I need a gunsmith?

Tried the "search" feature and couldn't find the answer there.

I would 1st try the snap caps and then dry fire everyday for a week or 2, then I would have the trigger reset spring changed from the 18 lb spring that is in it to about a 14 lb.
Oh yes make sure you put some oil inside with hammer cocked back if you are going to dry fire a lot.

My M-36 is about as good as it gets. The trigger pull is still alittle heavy.....but it's as smooth as butter. It was a Police Trade-in....not shot a lot.

I think that S&W did an action job on it. They don't put a reduced power spring in any gun. The older ones probably already had a lower spring rate. They do make the action smoother. Bob

You can never make a J-frame trigger pull as smooth as say an N-frame gun.
Simple law of pyshics. You have smaller parts with smaller mass and weight being swung over a smaller arch propelled by a smaller spring and still have to strike a primer with enough force, same as the big guns, to ignite it, therefore the springs are going to have to be stiffer or stronger. A lighter rebound spring will help some. You can lighten them some, but only to the point of misfires. This is oversimplification, but the meat of it.

Thanks to all for the responses. I think I'll see if the snap caps and a little oil will loosen things up a little.

A good trigger is very important to a gun's ability to perform well. A spring kit(Wolf, Bullsey, etc) is only abot 10 bucks from Midway and are pretty easy to install. I have installed several on my Smiths over the years and have always made an improvement.

You can never make a J-frame trigger pull as smooth as say an N-frame gun.

I humbly disagree. I sent my model 60, 3 inch, DAO back to S&W for a "action Job" When I got it back it is as smooth as any of my "N" frames.

I can only say 'WHAT A DIFFERENCE" 3 weeks turn around,

Maybe so and may be smoother, but get an action job on one of the N-frames and then compare the difference. The N-frame will always win.
