I recently acquired what appears to be a S & W Mod. 17 but it is not marked with a model number. It is P&R., 6 inch. and has two numbers inscribed inside the crane and under the grips. 33xxx and K553xxx. Also has the number "2" stamped in two places on the crane.
Can someone give me information regarding this piece? Thank you for any responses.

Welcome to the forum.

K 553,XXX dates to around 1963-64. S&W started stamping model numbers in 1957 and they were up to the 17-2 revision by that time. Maybe they just missed stamping it. 33,XXX is an assembly number and the other markings are fitters or inspectors marks.
It is what it is! Pics??

Thank you for the info. I do not have the ability to post pics. (No camera). However, your pics capture it very well. Thanks again.
