I have an opportunity to purchase a Model 33 4 inch square butt in 38 S&W. Overall condition is minty with diamond grips # ed to the gun, deep rich bluing, made in the mid 60`s I think. Price is $350.00,are these desirable? Forum search revealed less info than I expected.Do any members own and shoot this model?

It was also called the .38 Regulation Police. I’m sure production was a fraction of the Model 36. If it was made in the mid-1960's, it should be a 33-1 (J frame). They're expensive to shoot, unless you reload or scrounge ammo at gun shows. I have a Model 32-1 (Terrier) which is the round butt, short barrel version of the Regulation Police.

I think it would be hard to find another one like you describe for $350 if you were looking. FWIW, I paid $300 for mine recently and it's an early 70's gun with matching non-diamond stocks. I had some ammo laying around, so I had to buy it!

Hi you dont see these Model 33 come up for sale very often at least were i am. I have one around the same time period flat latch and dymond magna grips and yes they can be expensive to shoot a box of 50 go for over $40 bucks up here in Canada so if you want to shoot it brass is not easy to find and the bullet heads are larger diameter then the .38 special too. So you would need .361 dia. bullets to load.I know some people use the .358 dia 158gr. from the .38 special but they are a little loose in the barrel and the accuratecy not there..But overall there cool little J frame gun.The one i have it was a Bank Guards Gun from the National Bank of Canada. Heres a pic of mine.[IMG:left] [/IMG]

I have both a 32 and a 33. I don't know of much they are good for. To me, the 30 and 31 are much more fun.

I used to see .38 S&W brass, and ammo, at gun shows all the time - for next to nothing! So I figured I should probably get a gun that fires it.

As soon as I did, the stuff vanished, and what remained, the price went through the roof.

I think the price you mention is in line, and they are nice little guns, to just sit around and admire. Other than that...
