The relative who had given me this found the box and paperwork. Purchased on 12/26/67 for $71.50. Wish I had been into guns back then with those prices!

It sounds good now, but $71.50 was a lot of money back in 1967. The inflation calculator says it equals $439.50 in 2007, which is about the going rate for a high condition vintage Chiefs Special. Some things hold their value.

I was a teenager and minimum wage
was $1.10 I think

Sounds about right TD.
My model 36 cost me $87 in 1968 new.
My Ruger Single Six cost $78 in 1966, when I first got my carry license.
Minimum wage was ~$1.60 I think in 1968.
Whew, now I do feel old!
