Hi,new to the forum but been looking quit a while.One question I have I have a chance to buy a S&W M.19 Texas Ranger thats new in the hard case with a knife.If I bought it I would shoot it.I'm not into safe queens.The price is in the $600 range.Are they really that collectable?
I would hate to ruin the the value of a real collectable gun.I did enough of the as a kid sporterizing Springfield 30/06 that I still feel bad about.

If new with the knife, case etc., $600 is cheap. I have one.

I would have a hard time shooting it, if it is unfired. You can find a shooter model 19 a lot cheaper than $600.

It does sound like a great deal. You could probably shoot it and still be able to sell it for what you have in it.

But should you? I too would have a hard time shooting it. Shooter M19 are not hard to find.

You should buy it, admire it for a while, keep it unfired and then trade it here in the Classifides for a very nice standard Model 19 and some money, a hundred bucks or so. Keep any boxes and papers that come with it.

The Texas Rangers were S&W's first production commemorative handguns.

I bought mine new way back. I never fired it as I always had similar .357s. BUT if I didnt have another .357 I would shoot it in a heartbeat! I also have a uberti built colt copy SAA that is a commemerative Gen George S Patten silver plated fully engraved .45 colt. I think I gave less than $500. Last listing was close to $3,000! What I gave is ballpark to a cheap standard uberti now. I have a real McCoy colt SAA in .45 that I DO shoot! No reason to shoot the texas ranger 19, or the uberti commemerative. But I would if I didnt have similar as I paid what a new plain jane price would be. I also have the 544 wagon train. I got that cheap too. But there again I have 4 S&W .44 specials. I really need to sell those 3 commeratives I guess. I would never pay full pop for another commemertive.

Thanks for the replys.It belongs to a friend of mine I've known 30 plus years.He's in his 80's and has cancer.It just so hard to buy used S&W here in California.I think I can order a new S&W 357,but I'm not crazy about the lock.I'm still going to do the legal transfer.I sure like to move out of this state but it would hard to up and leave my kids and grandkids.Should of stayed in Oaklahoma years ago

Patrick, I have a fine collection that I accumilated while liveing in california. I retired in 2000 and the wife and I moved here to utah. Things have changed a LOT gun wise in california. I did my career there from 1965 to 2000. All guns were plentyfull in the 80s yet.
Moveing doesnt always solve the problem kid wise. We were going to go to wisconsin where I was raised. Our kids all hollered they wouldnt see us as it was too far. So we moved here a big days drive in range of the spread out kids. Guess what? They all moved further away in the last four years! I belive it is a mistake to let kids control your life. However, it is harder on my wife than it is me.
