A non-custom gun, with MIM, standard trigger, and The Lock...for $1,000...hell no!

I would rather find a Pre-18 (the real "Combat Masterpiece") than pay that kind of $money for a lock/MIM "wanta-be".

There's a great Pre-18 on GB now [#120326974] for less than the new price you listed-----the bids may take it above the level of a new one but the real value will be better.

Only if the older model 18's were impossible to find. Since the older ones can be had with relative ease for half the suggested retail of the new offering I would have to say no to the latest incarnation.

It's very sad but, Smith & Wesson will go the way of Winchester in this new political environment. They can't change back to the old ways of no IL and no one will buy them if they don't. Winchester wouldn't listen to what buyers wanted, nobody bought so they're gone. Greg

No. I have seen many very nice pre-lock, pre-mim model 18's goin the $500 - $700 range; much more desirable. Besides, I already have a Mod 18 made in 1980.

You have to wonder what some companies are thinking of in this economic climate. Apparently they still think that they can sell discretionary, high end products for sky-high prices in uncertain times.

I have had my M18 for over 25 years; bought my son one some time ago for $275. That's all well and good; but if I couldn't get them for what I consider a fair price, I would find a way to get along.

I have a clunker Ruger .22 semiauto that shoots at least as well as a M18, old or new.

S&W is betting that a lot of people can't or won't get along without their pricey toy.

As others are saying, get an original for much less than the copy. I have loved S&W for over 30 years but they don't listen to their customers and never have. Remember, it took Elmer Keith decades to get them to make the 44 Magnum which has been one of their best products.
It took decades for them to modify the cylinder release so that it doesn't cut the thumb as easily. Many folks were using a file on the cylinder releases of our 44 mags since the at least the 1960s.

I have a 17 & a 617 and some 63s. I like the quality of the older stuff and they don't have the locks that almost NOBODY likes.

HELL NO!!! S&W is out of their minds especially in this economy.

I'll stick w/my cherished 18-3 that I bought used in '89 for $200.
