I think this is my first post to S&W forum.
Got a 3" 65-5 ($375 with case & 3 speed loaders) as just a "nightstand piece".

I figured if it was stolen (Gunvault Minivault Safe) I wouldn't feel as bad vs. other $600-$800 carry pieces.

Now, after reading & shooting I would indeed be upset if it was stolen. No where to get a cheapie worth having for $300 or less.

Anyhow, can someone tell me what the birth year was for CCE30xx?

I have read about the potential issues of 125gr, but what about using the 135gr Speer short barrel GoldDot? Will the 10gr heaver design be less like to cause potential problems?

Of course I could stick with 158gr but I do like the idea of the Speer short barrel design.

Regards & thanx for the input.

Welcome to the Forum! You got a good deal on a 3" Model 65! I think they are one of the premier carry guns out there. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions, but I practice mostly with .38's in mine and carry the same 135 gr. Speer Gold Dots you refer to. I'm not at all worried about wearing out my 65 with a couple of cylinders of those - or any other commercial .357 loading - in a year's time. Enjoy that gun!

Congratulations on your purchase. It was a wise decision.

It is well known that owners of 3 inch Model 65's are very intelligent, witty, honorable .... a person who shoots straight and speaks the truth .... as well as attracting the interests of the ladies.

I've said it more than once, but the 3" Model 65 is the finest concealed carry revolver in existance.

I load mine with Remington R357M11 medium velocity 125 gr. semi-jacketed hollowpoints. The box says it offers reduced recoil for more comfortable shooting.

I believe most of the manufacturers offer similar loadings. Try them out and get a feel for those you handle best and are most accurate.

Something must be wrong with the required picture function?!?!

Great choice, and deal.

Definitely stoke up that 65 with 125 grain Magnums!

No better fight stopper has ever been devised in a handgun.

Practice with heavy 38 specials, saving the Magnums for occasional practice and for real.

Dang, lots of killer deals goin around lately.. You did good with that 3" 65.. 3" SS S&W .357 revolvers are in HIGH demand.. At least that's what it appears on the auction sites. I guess the 3" barrel was rare.. Oh, and I agree with TN Rat.. What happened to the mandatory picture post with any newly aquired S&W wheelgun?
