The PD that I work for used to roll stamp our badge onto our duty weapons. When an order was placed individual officers had the opportunity to purchase a gunj also so there are some floating around. There were 3 models that the stamping was done to the 681, 686 and 66. I have a 66 and a 681 but and I have been looking for a 686 but no one I know will part with one. Well I was at a gun show today and low and behold a dealer from Tulsa had a 686 in the original box. Needless to say it came home with me. The dealer also had a NPD roll stamped 66 in the box and it went home with my buddy.

Why did the M-681's have the predictable four-inch bbl., and the M-686's go to six-inch barrel?
Those two added inches of full-lug barrel make the gun considerably bulkier and less handy.
