I just purchased a blue model 49 Bodyguard, pinned barrel with S&W non diamond grips The serial number is throwing a bit. It is a six digit serial# 4J3XXX. The only letter in the serial number is J but it is not in the beginning of the number (prefix) as you can see. Could someone give me the year it was most likely made. I know it was made somewhere from 1969-1981 but would like to know what year. Thanks for your help.

It's called the roving or floating J series. There's an error in the book on pg. 399. The serial range should read; 1971-72 1J1-999J99
