Model 629 no dash with 4 inch barrel
I have an 8 3/8 inch barrel and a 6 inch barrel model 629 no dash that are both pinned and recessed. I want to get a no dash 4 inch model that is pinned and recessed to complete my collection and I'm getting the idea that these are really tough and hard to find.
I'd like to hear from those of you that have them and if you would be nice and show me some pictures of yours so I can keep my hopes up on finding one for me.

Fairly rare guns
I have a 4" P&R no dash in 4 inch. Lucked out - found it a a pawnshop, with original grips, no box. Serial #N855xxx. Paid under $600 for it. It's in great shape, shoots like a champ.
Sorry, can't show a photo, camera is busted.
The 4" and the 8-3/4" 629 P&Rs were only made in 1981, according to The Standard Catalog of S&W.
I only shoot mild loads - IMO it's too rare to shoot hot loads with. I had two Model 29's go severely out of time many years ago, so I'm leery of the strength of old Smith .44 magnums.
fyimo, you're lucky to get the guns you have. The 6" no dash 629 was only made from 1979 to 1982. You have two good collectors

OK, here's mine, gun only. Paid $500 about a year or so ago. No heavy loads for me anymore, I got tired of beating up my guns. This one's a keeper, though I'd love to find NIB.

A transition 629
This is a properly dressed 629!
This is a transition gun, recessed cylinder but not pinned barrel. It is an "N" serial prefix shipped in Oct 1981.

At a Phoenix gun show about a year ago, I ran across two 629 "no dash" revolvers. One was a 6" and one was a 4". I decided on the 4". It's in excellent condition, made in 1981. They are out there, but are getting pretty scarce now. Here's a pic of mine:

I have a pair of 4" no dashers, but am not inclined to sell one due to the "value" to me being worth more than the $600-700 that folks seem to be buying them for. Guess I'll just hold onto them both, as what with inflation coming (due to all the dollars the Fed is printing) they'll be worth $2000 in a couple-three years!
Here are my 629s...two no dashers and 3 "lesser" dash #s that are not P&R'd!

Art, I saw a couple at the show this weekend in Troy, and mentioned to my wife that you were looking for one. The ones I saw weren't for sale though. I am keeping an eye open for you.

I really appreciate that and I will eventually get one. I just had $2200 worth of dental work done yesterday so I'm not in a rush right now. In fact I know where one is right now and it's just slightly over priced. I can and will buy one if I find a smoking good deal on one or a mint gun but a slight wait.

You don't see a 629 P&R often enough. But I wouldn't baby it and I bet it still lasts you.
When I bought my first 629 the gunsmith in the shop gave me some advice that I adhere to. He told me to not shoot 300 gr bullets as the older guns were designed for a 240 gr bullet. Every once in awhile you'll see someone complain about their 29/629 going out of time. Most times you'll find they've either been loading hot or shooting 300 gr bullets out of an early model gun.

Two Boxes
I purchased my 6" model 29 no dash from a distributor back in 1980. It was shipped in a standard blue box with no labeling, but the end has the standard smith model, serial, etc. information. With it came a mahogany fitted box with blue lining and tools. Paperwork info was in the blue box with the gun. Anyone else have the two box experience with their 629 no dash, or for that matter, with any smith model? Just curious. I own about 30 smith revolvers, most purchased new, but this pinned and recessed 629 no dash is the only one with two boxes.
