Default S & W 28-2 Info Request

I just brought home my new, old 28. When the cylinder is released to reveal the serial #, which is s3222xx, below that it looks like a D 28-2. I wonder what the D means. Anyone know?

Sir, if you look closely to the left of the "D," you should see "MO," the whole thing being "MOD," short for "Model." Sounds like the "M" and "O" were just lightly struck.

BTW, your 28-2 is a late '60s gun, maybe '68-ish.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

Talking

RonH, you are probably correct, but, not on this one (I don't think). I don't know how they put those letters and numbers on but it is all sort of too far left for more than one other letter to be there but there is no sign of it that I can discern. Looking at it again it looks like (D. 28-2). I wonder if they stamp it one letter at a time or the whole phrase or what, but, I am rambling and you are correct I am sure. Thank You.

Default The 28-2

Elrod:

The "D" is short for "THE". So... you have "THE" or "D" 28-2! Very special...

Regardless of what it means, the 28's are one of my favorite 357's! Sounds like you have a nice one.

Congrats,

In the vein of the above post, you might have the elusive D-frame revolver. They are indeed rare!

Seriously, the posters above that are probably correct. Imagine it's a MOD 28-2... Nice revolver, my fav.
