WOW! What else is there to say, that is beautiful! Where did you find that? Don't say someone walking around a gunshow with it wrapped in a brown grocery bag.

Congratulations, Jeremy! You search is starting to pay off. I think you chose to collect pintos because they're some of the most beautiful guns ever made. That one certainly is.

Thanks for the post,

Jerry

gunnut44, I don't have a "widow in a gun show/shop" story. I was fortunate enough to acquire the 29-2 from a fellow forum member (and new friend). I traded/paid fair market value, and I have no regrets.

VM, I love the challenge. It definitely takes patience and persistence. Sometimes I get lucky, and sometimes I make my own luck. Either way, I try not to miss any opportunities.

j38, it's funny that most people either love or hate two-tone guns. Honestly, I understand why people hate them, but I believe they are beautiful and unique.

Gorgeous gun, Jeremy!
I never gave Pintos much thought until I saw them on this Forum, but I think they're highly collectible and occupy a beautiful little niche in the S&W world.

Very nice!

I see some new "pintos" from time to time, but never seem to come across any others.

Great post!

Cool Wow

Jeremy:

Verrrrrry nice, and as you know - I also love the pintos! Congratulations - How many does that make? It's about time to take a family photo of the pinto herd that you are accumulating. I like the fact that the pin and the screws are all nickeled as well - very nice touch.

Default Pintos

A friend of mine had a pair of pintos in his shop in 74-75. One had a nickel frame. The other a blue one. They were consecutive # 29s. In walked two Iranian students from the Medical College of Georgia. It was love at first sight for these two brothers. They paid for these pistols with TWO crisp $1000 dollar bills. Mike just about jumped out of his skin. In fact he took them to the local FBI office to see if they were counterfiet. They proved to be genuine.
Mike kept one bill and gave the other to his partner Leon. We were talking about this the other day and were wondering which was worth more today. The pistols or the $1000 bills? The $1000 dollar bills were CONSECUTIVE # too!

Great looking 29-2 and I must say I was never interested in a pinto but on an N frame it's a whole different game and a stunning revolver.

Doc44, I've only documented four two-tone Model 29s (including mine). The other three were pictured in the SWCA Journal (Spring 2003). I believe you are familiar with that publication.

JayCeeNC, digi-shots, 29aholic, fyimo, kennyb, I truly appreciate your kind words.

RKmesa, I'll eventually take a family photo, but first, my Pre-27 needs a set of period correct (circa 1953) smooth rosewood target stocks. Unfortunately, I've never seen a set for sale.

sw282, thank you for sharing your interesting story. The current values of a collectible $1000 bill and a two-tone Model 29 are probably similar. However, $1000 worth of gold or stock (say HP or IBM) in 1975 would buy A LOT of S&Ws today.

Jeremy:

Something like these stocks?

The photos do not do them justice and I'm not sure if they are rosewood or goncalo alves, but they are bookended, have a rich rose color, early escutcheons and they feel great in my hand. I had to trade a 5" 27 barrel for them, but I have never looked back ...

Crazy K38, I'm not a fan of engraving, but there are known factory engraved examples.

RKmesa, those are absolutely gorgeous! Unfortunately, non-relieved sets are nearly impossible to find.

Cocked & Locked, I'm glad you found this thread. I'll email you when I get a chance.
