Default My S&W Model 13-1

I found a nice one with a 4" barrel at a local gun store for $265. Serial Number D816815. I had bought one brand new 20+ years ago--The first S&W I ever owned--- but financial necessity several years later forced me to sell it to make ends meet. I've pined for that gun ever since, and now, I found one like it again! I'll post a pix of it as soon as I get my camera back from my teenage son.

What has me geeking out over this this pistol is it has a recessed cylinder for the cartridges. As this feature was phased out in later models, does that make my model 13 any more "special" than the ordinary Smith?

I also have a model 13-1 with 4" barrel that is my first S&W revolver. I purchased mine from a friend back in the 1970's for $150.

Special to some, just another feature to others. I like them and think you got a good deal at that price. Be sure to post the pics.

Congratulations on your find. I bought this 13-1 from a fellow forum member, Serial # D886xxx circa 1976. It's become my wife's favorite handgun. She keeps it loaded with Remington .357 Magnum 125 gr Golden Sabers.

Here is my model 13-1. It is the subject of my post in S & W. Revolvers, 1961 to 1980, "Model 13 anomaly?". It was bought new in 1974 or early 1975. It's s/n is 3D15XXX. Model 13-1 was made from 1974 to 1977. There are 2D prefixes listed as produced in 1977 and 1978. 4D starts in 1979.
There are no 3D prefix serial numbers listed. Maybe it jest don't exist. I
requested a letter on it a while back and will add info to the post when I get it.
teesur.

I notice that some of you posted your serial numbers with the last numbers x'd out. Is there a reason for that, like to protect yourself, like protecting your personal social security number?

Just wondering if I committed a faux pas

For $265 you just got yourself one heckuva nice k-frame.

I have three Model 13s, two 4" and one 3"; two blued, one nickel. I just have a thing about midsize S&W revolvers. They're just about right in every respect.

M13-1 ~ Yes, I like them too ~ The bull barrel gives it a feel good fit and balance with a rugged look.

I know the feeling. been checking gunbroker and local shops. I'd been looking at the model 10's but that tapered barrel looks too goofy to me. so then looking through the SCSW I see the 13 and heck why not this one and with a 357 too. good heavens, this hobby is addictive.
