Default What was first year for 2.5" Model 19?

Was it 1966 with the 19-2 or did S&W make 19s with 2.5" barrels before then?

According to my copy of "the book"...you are on the money for standard production ones...1966. In 1963, 50 were made but not as a standard production item.

Correct. The first 50 were made in 1963 in a serial range from K544672 - K544721.

They were cataloged and became available to the general public in 1966 and there is one year of 19-2 marked 2 1/2"s out there. I picked one up last year. Still looking for one of the first 50, after 40+ years. One LEO buddy in fact has one but he swears he's putting it with him when he goes, as grave goods to take to the great beyond and so his wife doesn't sell it to me. Friends. ;-)
