Default Pre-Model 27 purchase, and others

After getting some great feedback from the forum, I went ahead and purchased a pre-Model 27 from a local gun shop. The forum was about 50-50 on whether I should buy it or pass on it because of some condition issues. After some haggling, I ended up paying $545 for the blued, 5-screw model with 6-1/2" bbl, s/n S140334. Frame, bbl, cylinder, and Magna grips all match. She cleaned up nicely, and shoots like a dream. Mechanically perfect and sights are dead on. Thanks for all the input.

Here are some pics of my S&W revolvers. Don't panic...I kept the Target grips for the Model 28. I put the Jim Badger grips on because I carry the HP when I ride or drive. Works nicely in the Ross Leathers crossdraw driving holster. The Model 15 snubby was my wife's grandfather's when he was the Chief of Detectives out in Downey, CA. Can someone tell me when it was manufactured- s/n K509199?

I think you did quite well on the purchase of your pre-27. Congratulations on your growing collection. If your model 15 is a -2, that barrel length is quite uncommon, and probably late 60's.

Very nice .357 Magnum.

Your Model 15-2 serial number books at 1962, but it also says the 2" barrel was introduced in 1964.

If any of those guns have issues, they must be on the other side.

Gotta' love those diamond magnas, all those revolvers are top-notch.

The book says - 1962 = K468099 TO K515478 on the Mod 15.

Yes, the snubby is a Model 15-2. It is a little confusing about the barrel length...frame and cylinder have matching s/n from 1962, but the Magna grips are from an even earlier 364xxx revolver. And if S&W didn't put 2" bbls on until 1964, who knows? Perhaps since this was a police gun, an armorer did a little work on it, but the bbl looks original and is too small to have its own stamped s/n. Maybe it wasn't sold and shipped until '64 and was ordered with a 2" bbl. Irregardless, it's a fine little K-frame, and shoots very well for having a 2" tube.
