Have you ever bought a S&W because you had the grips for it?
I suppose that I'm the only one to do this.
I have bought three different guns- two K's and one .455 Canadian because I had grips to fit these guns, but no guns to fit the grips.
Am I the only one to do that?

I'll go better than that!
I traded an Airweight revolver for an all steel revolver just because I had a couple of boxes of .38 Special +P ammo and didn't wanna mess up a perfectly good Airweight by shooting the +P stuff through it!
But yes, I too have put the "cart before the horse" and bought a set of stocks, thinking that maybe someday I would pick up that particular revolver that could wear them.

I bought a box for a M37. Now I'm looking for the gun with the same serial number.

I've done because of ammo or reloading supplies/equipment - but not grips (at least not yet! )

I found a set of K frame stags at a yard sale for $15.00 some years back. I didn't have anything that needed stocks at the time so I put them away for a couple of months until I found a really nice model 15 for them.

I have a decent set of N Magnas, and not a single N frame in the safe. Guess it's time to go shopping.
I bought about 1000 rounds of .40 S&W (over several weeks) when WM had it on sale two or three years ago. I didn't have a .40 yet, but it sure was a good excuse to buy one.

Years back I had a nice pair of Spegel boot grips but no gun to put them on. Now they're on a 2" model 64.

I have never done that....
But, when in was in college, in 1971, one of my neighbors in my Apt complex, came over and gave me a magazine for a S&W Mod 39.
He stated, "Do you have a gun to fit this?" I replied "NO".
He stated, "Here take it, one day you will, I can tell."
He was right. By 1975 I had 2 S&W Mod 39's both Nickle.
Which was quite a step [foward, or backward??] for a fella that had been a 1911 kind of guy since 1966.
So I can say, I bought a "gun" to fit a magazine that somebody gave me...
So, I understand the "grip thing".
Seems "perfectly" natural to me...

I see no problem buying a gun because you have the grips.
My grandmother gave me a S&W box and holster that belonged to my late Grandfather. I found the correct gun for box and holster. This was my first S&W, now I have.....well plenty! Thanks Grandpa!!! Good hobby.
By the way it was a 34-1 snubbie.

Not yet, but I have a set of pre-war magna's looking for a new gun...just not having much luck.
To expand my options: did the Outdoorsman and/or Heavy Duty ever get shipped with pre war magna's?

Yep. Bought a 25-5 in presentation case which had a nice set of Cokes. Swapped those out for a correct set of GA football targets and sold the gun for what I had in it. The Cokes eventually went on a M29 no dash.

No, I haven't... But only because I never looked at it from that angle before. THANKS!!!
Now I have another reason to go looking for (and purchase) that vintage S&W: "But honey, I needed the metal parts that went between the wooden grips..." or "Look how much more valuable the grips are once I added the rest of the revolver..."
Regards,
Raven6
