Default My two new babies

After several years of trading and swapping, I have settled on a J frame for CCW and a K frame for trail work. The J frame is a 640-1. I have owned a Ruger SP101 ( a couple of them) and they just don't carry as well as the J frame. Not to mention the trigger pull. The K frame is a Model 15-3 with factory nickel. There is some discoloration on the ejector knob and the cylinder release with some light flaking of the nickel on the ejector rod. Otherwise, it is in very good shape. I generally prefer fixed sight revolvers like the Model 64, but this was what I wound up with on my last trade. I have made up my mind that I will always own at least one J frame and one K frame. Finally learning how to post pics.

Nice score Otis. That 640-1 should make a great CC gun. I have one of those on my list to go with my M60-9. Have fun with both of those! PEN

Nice guns you got there. I am looking for a 640 myself. I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment out of your additions.

Nice guns Otis

My summer EDC gun is the pre-40 shown shipped in 1956. Someone has had it parkerized in its past ruining the collector value but making it ideal for my purposes.

I also have a nickel K-frame albeit somewhat older. Below is a scarce factory nickel pre-15. It dont see the trails, but it does appear at the occasional BBQ

Good choices Otis.
Mine are a M638 and 4" M66 or M67. And perhaps a M29, depending on the trail.

Both of those are very nice. I haven't shot a J frame yet but I've wanted to for a while now. All I've ever shot (revolver-wise) have been K frames.

Those 640-1's are nice. I shot regular 357's out of one. The recoil was a little stiff but it can be done. It's just sorta heavy for a pocket gun so I sold it and got a 642. If you can find a way to hang it off a good belt then you got a keeper.

It carries o.k. for me in an Don Hume IWB holster. Definitely carries better than the SP101. The SP101 is a great gun, but just not as "portable" IMHO. What I would really like is a Model 640 (no dash) in .38 special. Just seen two of these in the classifieds. The 640-1 does balance well with the extra weight and I am sure that the recoil with .38+P ammo is lessened by the extra weight. Overall, I have been very happy with the 640-1. Although I aquired it in Feb., I just got around to shooting it this month. With J frame magna grips, the recoil was fairly pronounced. I will try again soon with the Hogue Bantam grips.
