Default What is the value of a mod 14, nickel & snub-nosed?

I saw one at the pawn shop today and they priced it at $400. Is that a fair price? It is pinned and recessed. Model 14 (no dash) with nickel finish and stag grips (cracked), and 2-1/2" barrel. Thank you.

Something is not right. S&W didn't make Recessed/ snub 14's.
Sure it wasn't a model 19?
What caliber was it?

I may be wrong but the model 14 didn't come with
a 2" barrel according to my S&W book. A gunsmith
might have done it. Don

I don't think the barrel was cut down. It is a tapered barrel and looks to be originally 2-1/2". Could this be a super rare model 14?

Caliber was .38 Spl

I think the barrel was probably replaced. And while the barrel could well be pinned, they cylinder shouldn't be recessed. Sounds like a gun smith special to me. But as we all know, with S&Ws, never say never.

Are you sure that "4" was not a "9"? Is there an ejector rod shroud? That tapered barrel is puzzling. Can you get a photo?

No

If indeed it is a model 14, it is modified. 38 special (model 14) cylinders weren't recessed.
Four inch barrels were the shortest ever offered on a 14

The vast majority of 14s are 6". Also seen in 8&3/8" and very, very rarely in 4" barrel length.

Very, very, very rarely seen in nickel (I have never seen one).

The 38 Special S&Ws were never recessed. Some people say "P&R" when referring to the older 38s but they were only P and not R.

Either the gun is not a 14 or has been extensively modified. If it is a cut up and refinished 14 I personally would not pay over $100 for it.

If you misread the number and it's actually a 2.5" nickel M19 then $400 is good ballpark figure depending on condition and exact model. If it's some other model I can't guess without details. Quick tip to tell between 14 and 19- the 19 has a shrouded ejector rod and the 14's is exposed under the barrel.

A 6" M14.

A 2.5" nickel M19.

Upon closer look, it did not have adjustable sights. The barrel had a ramp front sight but it was not serrated. No markings on the barrel.

aimedfire , if tou get the actual serial number off the butt of the revolver we could probably venture a better educated guess.

All Smith revolvers will have a barrel address, showing the caliber. If it has been removed, then this is a problem gun. OKAY?

Good luck ,Allen
