Default Any model 25-7 model of 89 45 colt owners?

Just saw one of these on GB and really liked the looks of it, just wondering if any of you guys have one? And what you think of it? I'd love to see some more pics as well! One on GB is $850 is that a fair price?

In all the posts that I have read on various forums, I have only read once that someone had one that wouldn't shoot. I find that hard to believe. These things are extremely accurate! Others will be along to post theirs. We are proud of these guns.

That $850 price sounds kinda high to me.

Here is mine-

And the way they come from the factory-

Default 25-7

I own a Model 25-7, and have found it to be very accurate. Part of the reason for this gun's accuracy may be that the cylinder throats were slightly too small (I reamed them to .4525) while in most S&W's especially 25-5's, the throats are way oversize (.454 and larger).

Talking I would not part with mine!

My 25-7 will shoot one ragged hole at 10 yards. $850 seems high to me.

Years ago I had mine moonclipped to shoot .45 ACP as well as .45 Colt. It was a complete and utter failure. The chambers were too sloppy and would not stand the blow of the firing pin when shooting DA. Even moderate .45 Colt loads caused excessive swelling of the case heads. A few years later I bought a .44 Redhawk and had it rechambered to .45 Colt by Hamilton Bowen, using proper small body reamers. Fired brass from the 25-7 would not fit into the chambers of that Redhawk after being resized. I think the problem is with all standard mass produced .45 Colt cylinders and chamber dimensions. I became spoiled on the custom .45 Colt conversions and have not bought another .45 Colt since then. That 25-7 was a nice looking revolver but I grew to dislike the 5" barrel and unfluted cylinder. It just wasn't for me.

The 25-7 is a very nice revolver but that's too high a price for one. (only my opinion though)

Default Any post 1982 Smith in 45 Colt ctg.

Hi ,Mike. The later model 25-5 ,or the 25-7 and especially the 25-9 with the longer stop notch (endurance package) . These are really great guns to shoot, Not like 44 Magnum. And there is just something so cool about having a Smith that says Çolt' on it.

Good luck in your search. $550. to $750. is a good price for one of these.

625-7 , made 1999

25-5, 4" made 1988

New Service 45 Colt ,,1943

Good Luck , Al

I'm a big fan of the .45 Colt and S&W N-frames. My 4" & 6" 25-5s are excellent shooters (correct throats). But my 25-7 is even better. Just my opinion, but I believe the 25-7 is the best .45 Colt S&W ever made.

The 25-7 is one of the nicest S&W's in 45 Colt that I've had the pleasure to fire.
I find that I like the 625 Classic just a 'lil bit better.

Pistol racks are in the Brownells catalog.
They come in 4 or 6 gun and a version that stacks on itself.

Default The 625-7 6.5"

Jerry I seemed to remember someone else had one too. It is a beast , and power ported to boot.
Have you ever fired any full power loads to actually make use of the port?

Also ,, my 625 will readily chamber 454 Casull, a very dangerous proposition if someone wasn't paying attention!

I sure would like to find a 625 classic 5 inch barrel and just swap them out.
OR ,,maybe Lynnie would like to trade ??

Regards ,Allen

No thanks, Lynnie likes her 625 Classic just as it is.
I bet setting off a 454 round would be a spectacular end to a 25 or 625.
Call S&W and see if they have any 5" barrels left. Get the product code first though. I don't know where the box for mine is or I'd get that for you.

I agree with the previous posters concerning the accuracy of the 25-7. I wouldn't part with mine, though I'm not thrilled with the rubber grips or the unfluted cylinder. Some day soon I'll find someone who can furnish me with a Magna-style set of grips (I have small hands, like EK had) that'll convert the thing to square butt.

Wink $850 too high.........

You are not getting my 25-7 for $850!!! Sure is a good thing that Smith makes so many versions and variations as I personally love the five inch barrel and the unfluted cylinder. The Longest Coltest is the coolest.............IMHO Sprefix

I looked at a 25-7 at the last gun show. It was priced at $800. I paid, if I remember right, about $500 for mine several years ago. The price has really gone up on this model.

I am fortunate to own a 25-7. My father got tired of me drooling over his, so he gave it to me. I don't see myself ever parting with it.

I bought mine back in 89 when Smith was into the gun of the month mode.I tossed the hogues that came on it and replaced them with smooth Smith targets. Mine's not for sale at any price.

BTW: I just pulled out my copy of the 1990 Guns & Ammo handgun annual. In it is an article entitled "After The Flood" about all the new S&W guns being produced. The 25-7 is promninatly displayed.

Product Code: 100924
Caliber: 45 Colt
Barrel: 5"
Qty. produced: 2500
Remarks: Sq. butt/hogue grips/unfluted cyl/glass bead finish/lazer markings
Retail price: $439.00

My 25-7 is one of the most accurate revolvers I own. They may have been produced during the "Gun of the Month" era but at least they got ONE of them RIGHT.

IMHO perfectly balanced too.

Talking Model 25-7

I got mine in Jan. 1994 at a local gun show for $360. OTD which wasn't all that cheap then. I had a jones for one after I saw it on the cover of a GUNS mag. in 1989. They really didn't sell well initially but they have found their way into real S&W shooters. Mine wears S&W smooth factory targets.....really sorry I don't have pics.

IIRC, John Linebaugh really likes this model and carries it regularly.

I've got one and it is the most accurate revolver I own. Paid 350 clams 10 years agoand 850.00 sounds steep.

Smile 25-7

I was the guy that someone mentioned earlier that picked the last one up here in the sales forum a few weeks ago. I did see these go for around $500 several years ago but I never seem to buy things when there cheaper .

I was able to pick it up with box in 99% condition. There are a finite number of them in circulation.

Default articles etc

Mike or Bob,

I'd be very interested in reading or seeing any covers, articles, etc if there is any way to photograph them.

Thanks

Question OEM Grips?

What were the original grips offerred on this model? Hogue Monogrip or Pacmayr gripper's? I've seen photo's of each?

Was this model offerred possibly during the time period when S&W transitioned to the Hogue Monogrip, so there are examples of both?

Hmmmm.

Hogue mono-grip is original issue.
Ironically I've never seen another in the flesh for sale since I bought mine. And unlike my stainless guns the lazer markings remain sharp and clear on mine.

Jeez! Thanks for bringing up forgotten regrets! Coulda' bought one back then for $445 but didn't. It was the ONLY one I've seen in the flesh, so to speak.

I picked mine up in a trade for a Marlin 38-55. I love it so much that it became my nightstand gun, replacing a 6" Model 28. It's the ONLY revolver I have with Goodyear's.

I like it so much, I'm looking at a trade for a 25-2 to go with my 1917 and New Service.

A 25-7, 1989 has been for sale locally for the past few months. Seller was originally asking $999, then $949. Maybe a month ago, the price was reduced yet again to $899. The gun is supposed to be in like-new condition and the pictures seem to corroborate that claim. I'm trying to set up some time to see this gun either tomorrow or Monday.

Have asking prices for this gun continued to escalate? Some in this thread feel that $750 was a reasonable ceiling a year or two ago. I don't see enough of these on the market to decide, although I know that I will offer less than the current asking price.

Any nuggets of wisdom or other advice before I see this gun and, hopefully, enter into negotiations?

I have one and I think it is one of the best looking Smiths, and the .45colt round is extremely accurate(my opinion). I also have a mod 25-2 in very good condition. I was trying to sell them, but it seems that Smiths aren't selling too good here in SC. And I wasnt trying to charge an arm and a leg. I think I will get them back and hold on to them for a while.

These are not available every day. I was lucky a forum member helped me find mine. Mines a little different, it's a 25-9. Probably even a little more hard to find. I'm more than a little pleased with how it shoots. Price seems to be around 1000.00 now.
