Which is the most popular the .460 or the .500
Just wondering if anyone knows which of the two guns are the most popular. I always wondered which one S&W sells the most of in each caliber? Thanks

well I dont know from any numbers, but I am going to guess it is the 460.
I went to a gun show to sell my 500 earlier this year and I about 20 people asked if the gun was a 460 because thats what they were looking to buy. Not one person was interested in the 500. I am guessing it was because of the versatility of the chambering. 460, 454, or 45 LC....

Last time I asked this question at my local gun shop, the owner said he sells about the same amount of both new.........but gets about twice as many .500s coming back for trade-ins. His reasoning is that many .500 buyers are buying on impulse and just want the biggest and baddest, only to find out they don't enjoy shooting them or can't afford to feed them. He figured most .460 buyers around here were buying them for hunting and were reloading for that purpose.
Makes sense to me...................

I think the 460 is more versatile for most shooters but I still have my 500.

At the range, the 500 is the most popular and you will make more friends. At close to $3 bucks a pop, letting them fire it is like buying them a beer or two...

The deal I got on my 460XVR was just too good to pass up. Scope and mounts ,holster and 80 rounds all for $800.
If I found a similar deal on a 500 ,I'd jump on it.
When shooting the 460 XVR with the gain twist barrel any 454 Casull or 45 Colt loads should be large ,heavy bullets ,pushed fast to achieve the
best long distance accuracy.
Regards ,,Allen

500
Most educated folks are familiar with the 460, but the general public has no clue about it. When I shot my 460, people would always ask "Is that a 500?!", then I would have to explain what the 460 was. 'No clue as to what sells more between the two.
The 460 is a sweet rig, but the 500 gets all the press.

I have to give smith and wesson credit for design the 460 doesnt have the recoil you would think it does. As a matter of fact its less than most 44 mags.
Its nice to have at the pistol range too keeps everyone away just by muzzle blast and deafness.
Still the most impressive part is the accuracey you can get out of one and hunting with them is alot more fun than a rifle.
