New to me M66-2
I had been looking for a M66 for quite a while. I'd missed a few auctions on Gunbroker, but finally won one at a decent price, $550. It's a dash 2 with SN 310K3XX. I think it's a "Friday afternoon gun", you'll see why.
When the gun arrived I took it apart to see what the internals looked like. The previous owner had installed a Wolff RP trigger spring and I assume a RP rebound spring as well. The single action let off is light to say the least, I'm guessing barely 3 pounds (I need to get a gauge). I cleaned and lubed it and put it back together.
The Houges had set up for some surface rust on the frame. Some Kroil and a brass brush cleaned up most of it. I'm currently looking for some wood grips to replace them.
All in all not a bad condition...that is except for the frame. As the one photo shows it has some ****** "chamfering" that looks like it was done with a rat tail file. I know it won't affect the function but it does look like ****. Oh well, looking down the sights I will never see it...right?

That looks like a nice shooter. I don't quite understand why someone would do that bubba job on the frame but as you said, won't affect the shooting. Congrats!

Someone also replaced the rear sight assembly with one from a dash-4 or newer Model 66 or another newer K/L-frame. Your gun should have a squared tang to match the recess in the frame's top strap; the newer sight has the rounded end. As with the home gunsmithing, that won't affect the gun's shootability.

I wondered about that and the smooth trigger too...

As for the finish on the frame edge I have a NIB 6" 66-2 ISP 50 year anniversary and it looks the same as yours.

I have the same revolver (with 3 Ts) that I bought new and the frame "chamfering" you describe is just like mine has. They came that way from the factory. Mine is very accurate, but QC was poor. Mine also shows similar problems on the trigger guard --- Workmanship was sad!

I have several like that. That is how they were done in that time period. New CNc guns are much better in my opinion in many cases. I think they had more problems cosmetically then than now contrary to popular opinion on this forum. My newer 57 classic is much better finished than many of my 1980s vintage guns

I guess I was lucky. I have two 66-2s, a four-inch and six-inch, and neither have that "chamfering."
