Default Model 17 Kit gun, .22lr

Just wanting to get a general opinion on these guns.
I had a 617 in mind, stupidly passed one up at a gun show this weekend for $435 (used in great condition), then I saw a couple 17's at another vendor.
Didn't even know they existed but I like!

They were full lug, 6", no lock, adjustable sights black on black. Didn't appear to be blued, the finish was very matte.

Anything I need to know, anything to watch for? $535 a good deal?

Thanks from a S&W wheel gun newb.

Full lug Model 17s, or any Model 17, for that matter, are not described as Kit Guns. That term usually refers to .22s built on I- or J-frames.

My impression is that the demand for the full lug 17s seems to be increasing, and if you are not interested in the guns, you might post the contact info here and members would probably appreciate it. The price seems ordinary to me, but I am not in touch with the market.

I believe these guns were made with both steel and aluminum cylinders, and in 6- and 10-shot. I personally would not be interested in other than a steel cylinder in 6-shot, but everyone has their opinion on this topic. That is all I can think of that you might consider worth watching for.

17's and pre 17's (pre 1957) are tack drivers. One of S&W's most popular guns next to perhaps the Model 10. I just purchased a pre 17 serial K 1722 for $550 with no box or tools in probably 95% or better condition. I all ready own a couple as well as several 22/32's, but I just couldn't pass up a 4 digit serial numbered K 22 and especially a pre 17, K22 with serial number K 1722.
