Friends,

I have a pair of 686P's, one a -4 and the other a -6, for home defense. As I'm sure most of you are aware, they came from the plant with rubber finger-groove grips. These are pretty good grips for defensive purposes, but I've always felt that they should have more girth, especially at the rear, to better distribute the recoil. I can live with them, but was wondering if any of you have found a wider, finger-groove grip to fit these guns.

As always, thanks for your assistance.
Andy

Best thing to do is to look at all of them made and the old stuff to. Everyone is different, I love the looks of the S&W combats and I can't use them, Ahrend's does the best job for me. Hope this helps , when you are at the range ask if you can try thier grips for feel, or at the gun show.

The Uncle Mikes Combat grips in both the Square & Round butt cover the backstrap & work realy well for me..
You'll have to find out which ones feel best to your hands & go from there..

John,

That would be ideal -to be able to handle a number of guns/grips to see what fits the best. And I appreciate the suggestion.

Unfortunately those options aren't available to me. I live in a large rural area. The only range within a reasonable driving distance(and the one I use) is owned by a hunting club and not connected to a gun shop, so no guns are available there to try out. Also the only gun show is many miles away, once a year, and, the way it appears to me, cannot accommodate wheel chairs, which I would need in order to get around(I am partially disabled).

Consequently I thought I would see if some of the experienced folks here could tell me what would fit the bill.

Thanks again for your assistance.
Andy

Many thanks for the replies. I'm not sure how I'll find the best option, but at least I've learned of some that are out there.

These came standard on my X-Frame .460 and I have put them on my 629 and my 686s. They are just a tad bigger and cover the backstrap with a softer compound rubber.
