S&W Model 686
I was wanting to purchase a 686, and I looked at it today and it was SWEET! I just want some feed back on it. Is it a good revolver?

Once a year I plink at 75 yrds at steel plates with mine. It's a 686-3 that I bought new in the 80's. The gun is accurate and shoots like a 22 with spls. This gun never needed an adjustment. A fine revolver!
Only thing I don't like about it is the caliber, I grew into the big bores, so when I exhaust the rest of my ammo it will be sold. That's is my personal problem and not yours.

Love my 686-6, shoots .38 spcl like a dream and the .357 mags aren't harsh either. I'm still on the fence about the IL, it hasn't given me any trouble. If it does it'll get the plug. Very good pistol.
Good luck

I like my 686 Plus with a 2.5 inch barrel. Kinda heavy and wish I could get a holster that rode a little lower.

While .357s have been made in J, K and N frame guns. The L frame was built specifically for the .357. IMO the 686-4 plus is the high point of DA service revolver evolution.

You will soon learn that the 686 is a fantastic revolver. I carried one for years as a Police Officer. I still own that one and a second one. There is none better.

I have both a 586 with a 6" barrel and a 686 with the 4" barrel. Both guns shoot really well. I like shooting the 686 a little bit more because the balance is a little bit better for me.

For a carry and use revolver, the L Frame S&Ws, especially the stainless versions, are my favorite. If I could have only one handgun, it would be a 686.

I'll join the chorus. I have three 686's and they're all wonderful guns.

All around gun
I think the 686 is one of the most useful and versatile handguns in existence. I have two of them, in 6 inch and 2.5 inch barrels, and would get a 4 incher if I saw a good one. You can use them for targets, hunting, home defense or concealed carry, with a wide variety of ammo.

Have owned four 686s and my current version , bought new in 1994, is a 686-4 and the accuracy is beyond expectations on what is possible with a mass produced revolver! Very impressed! Get one , you will be glad you did!

My first revolver was a S&W 686 no dash with 6 inch barrel. It took a few hundred rounds to smooth out the trigger but after that I was in love. I shot it really hard like 200 rounds usually every other week for 4 years and then a friend asked me to sell it to him. Like a dummy I sold it because I was going through a 1911 phase at that time and I always regretted it.
Well long story short this year I bought another 6 inch no dash 686 and it's never leaving the family. The L frame is a great gun and excellent shooter. I also picked up a 586 no dash 8 3/8 inch barrel with adjustable front sight and I like that one two.
My 2 L frames.

I bought this 4" 686 no dash brand new when they were first introduced in the early 80's. Since then I have been down to one handgun a couple of times, and this has always been the "one".

Love my 686 with a six inch barrel. Got it used in excellent condition with some trigger work. A joy to shoot both single and double action.

Quite a handsome piece. I just sent off mine for some barrel work through Clark. About how long was the wait for yours?
