Default 29-5 To buy or not to buy?

Hi everyone! So I'm looking at buying a 29-5 with the 8 3/8 barrel for hunting. Already has a Leupold on it so pretty much ready to go. My question is if it's a good deal. Bluing looks to be in immaculate shape other than a slight turn ring and he's asking $1050.

Seems high to me. I think 650 on gun and maybe another hundred or so on scope.

Wow that's a big difference in price... I'm totally naive in the wheel gun world. I have my 19-4, but that's about it

You tell me what in the real world of guns you can get for 650 and then let me know if 650 is realistic for a model 29. There are model 36s in my neck of the woods that are starting at 450. Price depends on location as well. The gun alone is a 750-800 dollar gun in my area. No idea how to value a scope on it.

Prices vary by area. In my area, $1050 is probably more like $200-$300 on the high side. But it wouldn't be an outrageous ASKING price - because around here everybody seems to start with an asking price that's 20%-25% higher than their actual bottom line.

Yeah, only thing is that 1050 is the lowest he'll go as of right now. He's interested in my 19-4 with cash on top but I'm starting to think I'll just take a pass.

I for one don't think that is out of reason. The Leupold scope is not cheap, maybe around $300, mounts and mounted. That leaves a 29 that looks nearly new, and getting a new one for $700 would be a great buy. New 629s are almost a grand list plus taxes, etc.

It really depends on what you want and how this gun fits into your wants.

It's got the factory Target Stocks.

It looks like it is in real nice condition.

$1000 for the scope and gun could be a good deal.

Keep that 19-4 though. Don't be foolish and get rid of that. Those are going up in value. The 19-4 is pinned and recessed, that is what people are looking for, and you have one.

It's not a steal. Look for a pre lock model 29 and then price the scope mount and scope separately. It's not totally out of line either.
I would value gun at 800 without scope and mount if it has rear sight as well.

Totally agree with Tom.

My guess is that’s $300.00 worth of scope and a -5 that looks mint.

Buy it, you won't be sorry.

That's not a steal, but it also isn't a bad buy either. And like ars1876 stated, that is a pre-lock gun and also is pre-MIM too. From the pics it looks to be in real good condition too. If I were in the market for a scoped 29 with 8 3/8 barrel it would be one I would give serious consideration to.

I haven't priced a rear sight assembly lately so I'm not sure what they run, but it would be nice to have for the asking price, as well as the box and papers etc.

My 19-4 isn't a collectors piece by any means. It has some wear from a speed reloaded and some holster wear, but it's still a great gun. Only reason I thought about getting rid of it is because he's more interested in trades as he has already been offered 1k for it

It's not a steal as has been said before but you won't put a rig like that together for any less money. The three ring set up looks like a Redfield to me and is not a cheap mount by any means. The optic is excellent for that gun and the pistol on its own is quite nice. If you were buying it to tear down because you wanted a plain gun it wouldn't be smart but to find a great gun set up as you intend to use it is pretty sweet. A couple dollars and maybe a couple clicks on the turrets and you're ready to go. I would buy it in a heartbeat.

It is not an outrageous price. I would not part with the 19-4 though...you will regret that down the road.

Now if he wants to even swap for your 19-4, then do it. Doubt that he would bite on that though.
