Default S&w combat grip repair

I just noticed the other day that one on my combat grips had a small chip out of it at the middle finger groove, on the end of the extension. You can barely notice it, but it bothers me.
My question - is there anyway of filling this chip and refinishing them so they look new. I was planning on using Tru-Oil after I fill it and reshape the chip.
I went to the local hardware store, and they had filler, but I am not sure if the color will match.
They are not the walnut grips. I would like to try and fix them myself, as I already have enough in them.
Any information would be appreciated.

Sorry to say that wood filler will never be able to exactly match the surrounding original wood. The only way to get a seamless repair is to replace the missing wood by gluing in a piece and reshape.

If the chip is so small that it's, as you described, "You can barely notice it", then why not just sand the grip to remove it and refinish the spot? That seems like it would be the simplist route to take.

If you can post a pic, it would help to see exactly what you're dealing with.
