Default P.C.625-7 Lt.Hunter 45 Colt.Grail gun found.Opinions?

I woke up this morning and checked my e-mails. There it was on my Gone-broker notification system. Opening bid ,$600. Buy now $799.
I knew it would not last the day at $835.00 shipped so I hit the button.
What a rush, I almost passed out.

This is the RSR special made 1999 ,prod code 170132, Lt.Wt. ,ported.

Opinions? What say you? Beauty or beast? Svelte modern revolver, or Space gun?

I already know how it's going to shoot, so I don't have to speculate. With optics and the right load I predict 2" groups at 50' .

The hammer ,trigger and internals on all these p.c. guns are forged, the only m.i.m. piece is the thumbpiece.

This one will join its brother, another 625-7 full lug, already my favorite shooter.

I missed out on the rusty 4 screw 44 magnum Lee had on G.B. by $5. now I know why ,it was to afford this.

Regards ,,Allen F.

I just finalized the sale of a very clean Seattle Detonics MC-2 to finance this. When the 45s' start to go , you know Smithaholism has firmly taken hold. What's next? The living room furniture?

Man Allen,

you have a heck of a collection going, and the good sense to know that .45 Colt is where it's at! That isn't what I call a beauty. Beast is more like it. It looks like death just sitting there waiting to strike. I don't care too much for stainless, but hey, that one would come home with me! That is a cool gun. Congrats!!

Default Space gun

Not my thing, but I totally get why you bought it. It is beautiful and unique in it's own right and I would assume it was a bargain at that price. Nice grab!!

Very nice looking Allen. I saw one at a gunshow here a couple of years ago. I might have picked it up if I were not looking for a 627-0 at the time. I do have one now. I really wish I would have picked up the 625 now. To me the only thing that would make it better was if it had an unfluted cylinder!

I like it... except for the porting. In all honesty, was the porting needed - or desired? I have two lighter weight muzzle 625s in .45 Colt - I have both a -6 and a -7 Mountain Gun. I can't envision a need for porting with them. My first love in revolvers - .45 Colt. The dichotomy of a proper S&W with 'Colt' emblazoned on it's barrel is there, too.

One thing I am jealous of - the writing on the barrel is properly impressed. My MGs were 'Laser-etched' - and both have faded drastically after years of shooting and cleaning. I like .45 Colts - you must, too! Congratulations. Oh... the price... you paid less than what a Night Guard alloy gun would have run you - not bad - it looks quite clean.

Allen, dude. I've had the same gun now for 2 weeks! They are awesome!!

PM or e mail me if you want some loads I've worked up for the beast. It shoots and handles the recoil wonderfully! Oh and the ports do help a little when the load gets up to 1033 fps!!

Allen,
For those of us that like traditional looking guns and have trouble with even a full underlug, the look and features of this gun might take some getting use to. I have owned some guns that had a "different" look but I don't buy guns just to look at them.........I shoot them. The fact that you have a Performance Center product probably means that it will produce 1" groups at 50' using factory sights and production ammo. Any gun that shoots accurately is a good looking gun to me. I am available to help you field test this gun and verify that it is good looking.

Thumbs up

Allen-frame,
Congratulations. It is a GREAT looking revolver. The RSR run was the second batch of this barrel style in 45 Colt.

I have the predecessor, the one produced in 1997 with the unfluted cylinder, product code 170085. These were cool because the serial number prefix was CLTxxxx. I have always had a thing for serial numbers. Shown below is serial number CLT0045.

Also produced in 1997 was the Hunter with the adjustable weight system. These were done for Lew Horton and were exported to Germany. Some remained in the US.

I put Hogue Goncalo Alves grips on both of mine.

You will find that the air guaged, match grade barrels used by the Performance Center for these revolvers deliver outstanding accuracy. They also make most all 45 Colt loadings very easy to handle. While the porting does not have a great effect on low velocity loading, it does make a difference with the higher velocity offerings or hand loads.

BTW, that is only $110 more than I paid for mine in April of 1997. That is a good deal.

Allen;
It appears to me that you got a REAL DEAL! Congratulations!

I have it's cousin, a Light Hunter Model 629 Performance Center in .44 magnum. I paid $750.00 for mine from a dealer. It had less than a box of ammo through it.

They are real performers, too!

My mag hunter plus (same gun but unfluted cylinder in .44) cost me $800 out the door back in '94-'95? I'm sure there were a whole lot more 44's made too. Great buy! I'm not looking for one, and I woulda jumped on it!

Default Like the light hunter

I really like the Light Hunter profile and barrel length. I went looking a couple of years ago and couldn't find anything but this one that had a Birdsong finish. No porting either, which I prefer. I wish I could find a couple in .44 Mag and .357 Mag.
