Default A lucky find

I went to my local Gander Mountain today I was not looking for anything other than some gun spray. I found a 2-1/2 model 686-3 for $359.99 it was in 98% with the factory combat grips. From the flame mark I would say that the orginal owner shot less than 50 rounds and did not like the recoil. I had been thinking of buying one from Buds for $659.

As I was completing the paperwork 2 guys came in to pick up Ruger Vaqueros. I found out that they paid $329.99 for each. Gander purchased a discontinued lot of case colored 4-5/8 Vaqueros in 45 Long Colt. Well I ended up staying a little longer to purchase the last two.

I should say that no one should be surprised. Why? Illinois is NOT a carry state. Big guns including L frames have very little used value. Used J frames go for big bucks. This does not count the Obama factor.

At several times I have seen security trade in M64 4-inch for $249.99 at Gander in Joliet, Peoria and Springfield. Six months ago the Peoria store had (6) 2-1/2 M66 that might have been NIB. Probably back inventory when a department upgraded to autos.

A couple of local dealers are always telling me how jealous they are that I can carry as a LEO. They carry in their store but they must be unarmed at the end of the day when they are walking out and closing after dark. Smart idea GOV!!!

I love wheel guns for personal carry, I was grandfathered in. I probably will buy a new one so I can bob the hammer for IDPA.

Sometimes you can find a good deal at Gander. I bought a like new no box Ruger blackhawk convertable .357 and 9mm cylinders for $250 last year at the Joliet store. I thought it was a good deal.

The same thing happened to me at a local GM. I was looking for something else, walked over to the gun counter and found a very nice 3913 for $330.00. Grabbed it immediately. I believe GM is a hit or miss store regarding gun prices. More high price days, but sometimes a find is there by accident.
