Smile My new 27-3

Well I went Friday and looked it over again (it’s been calling my name) and checked out all the stuff. Has original blue cardboard box and cleaning stuff still in the original bag. Has a 4” barrel, target hammer, target trigger.

It’s only been test fired at S&W. There’s no brass marking on the recoil shield and no sign of shooting on the cylinder face.

I talked to Will and said it’s about a $700 gun, asking price was $799 (checked the Blue Book, gun sales boards and message boards) and $700 is more in the ball park, Will said yep you’re right; it’s about a $700 gun and gave me a nod.

So I asked if there’s any room for negotiation. Gun store owner had Will call and check, no answer from the owner so I said I’d call back later to check. Called about 3:00, still no word so Will took my number and said he’d call if he hears from the owner. Well about 4:15 Will calls, good news, owner will sell for $700 but… I can’t get to the store before closing and they are closed for Nevada Day on Saturday (: I asked if Monday 11:30 would be OK and he sad yes. So today at lunch I picked it up.

It’s now home cleaned and checked out, excellent condition.

Now my big dilemma is do I shoot it or should it be a safe queen ? I only have one safe queen now, Kimber Anniversary edition (pre-series II). It does have one tiny ding on the top strap you can only see in good light and the bolt drag marks are minimal.

The pics do not do it justice, maybe better pics this weekend in natural light.

Very nice 27-3, I have one just like it, LNIB condition. I finally decided to shoot the thing- best shooting .357 I have ever fired- shoots nicer than any of my model 19's, 66's, 586's,686's and model 28's. Do yourself a favor and go out and enjoy that gun as it was meant to be enjoyed- I promise you won't rergret it, Great Gun- Congratulations on a very nice find.
Repectfully,

Thats a great model 27. I just sit here and looked at
your pictures for several minutes. Those grips are beautiful.
Thanks for the pictures. I can't say whether I would shoot
it or not. Just to hard of a question for this old man. Don

Nice gun. Now go shoot it!

Seriously, the money spent on ammo will far outweigh the amount that that gun will depreciate from you shooting it.

I bet it shoots like a dream.

I like mine-a 27-3 5". Set up with a target hammer and smooth trigger. A nice, albeit under-appreciated 27 variation.

I agree 100%. That investment will do you no good when your 6 feet under and there are better investments out there.

BEAUTIFUL 27. Welcome to the club!

I had the same dilemma with my 27-2 - to shoot or not? The gun was like new.

Everyone on this forum said "Shoot the sucker," and I'm glad I did. After all, I'm not going to live another 53 years - Hell, I might die in my sleep tonight! So why deny myself the pleasure?

By the way - it's the finest gun I've ever shot.

Congrats on your new gun.

Guns were made with the idea that they would be shot. If that weren't true, they would build them out of steels that weren't hardened, or designed to take the pressure, and instead of cleaning kits, they would come with display stands.

Shoot it. It isn't a P&R gun, so that alone, whether deserved or not, cuts out about 75% of the collectability status. I think far too many guys overlook great guns just because of that one issue.
I gaurantee that you will enjoy shooting it far more than you will ever regret it.

It is a beautiful piece, as is that 5"er above.

Default My new 24-3

I picked up one just like it a few month's ago. I bought a set of feather crotch walnut stocks from member KURAC and took it out and shot it. Shoots good, looks good, what's not to like. I debated the safe queen idea for about one day and said forget that idea.
