Default Need s&w .38 spl recommendations

good morning all:

i just traded away my S&W .38spl airweight & want to replace it with another .38spl.

i traded it because i did not like taking it to the range..it killed my hand, & that's without the +P loads.

can you folks recommend another S&W? i need to buy used for pricing.

a NEW ruger SP101 .357 would run about $450.00, but i need to stay under $400.00.

i want a 3" bbl & a shiny finish, not black or blue..

should i be looking for a model 64 or others?

thank you in advance,
trailblazer

Default airweight

the airweight guns are strictly for carrying, i have a titanium 342 and it is terrible to shoot. just shoot it once in awhile and get something larger to take to the range.

Yes Sir....a 3" 64 should serve you well, and they're plentiful and right in your price range.....Zebulon

Model 10, 4 inch, heavy barrel. They can be picked up at gun shows for under $300. Almost no recoil. Great trigger.

I enjoy my M15-4 nickle plated snubby. I put some rubber Houge grips on it.

A 64 is bigger, a 6 shot K-frame, probably 10oz or so heavier too.

BTW, how's things in Hickory? I used to live in Morganton, moved to Maine in 2000. I sure miss the food down home!

With decent grips any steel or stainless steel j-frame has enough heft to soak up some of the recoil. I prefer shooting .38's through my Model 60 but finding one for $400 will be a challenge. Road Rat's recommendation of a Model 10 is a good one, if you wan't shiny look for one with a nickel finish. They have a reputation for being great shooters, both of the K-frame .38's in my arsenel are a pleasure to shoot.

funny you mentioned food. i'm from rochester ny & i can't wait to get back THERE for the food. i just can't warm up to all this BBQ stuff.

thanx for the info on the .38s...i really kinda wish i had kept it, but a was offered a gun with more value as an even trade, so, i traded it.

not sure exactly what i'm going to do...i may just buy a new SP101 & shop for some used S&Ws after i get the holes in my arsenal filled in., my wish list is longer, & now that i'm retired, there is too much month left at the end of my money.
