310 Night Guard
Has anyone seen the new 310 Night Guards? My two local shops say their wholesaler's are out of stock. Is Smith shipping these yet? Frank Jr.

Just picked one up last night. It was the first one I saw in person and it languished on the shelf for about 2 weeks. When I found only the one listed above for sale online, I decided if I wanted one, I might not get another chance. With tax I paid about what it would have taken me to get the one from Gunbroker shipped to my dealer.
The fit and finish seem good and the front sight really jumps out at you. The DA trigger is good and will improve over time. It does suffer from N-frame-firing-pin-itis and came with a VERY short firing pin. I'm replacing it with an extended firing pin from another N-frame that I've retired for resale. I've had FTFs with other new N-frames due to the short firing pin so I just don't bother with the factory pin anymore.
I'm looking forward to shooting it this weekend. Unfortunately my indoor range won't let us shoot magnums until the backstops are repaired, so I'm going to be restriced to shooting 40s at first. That's ok because this will be my nightstand gun and stoked with 40s while I'm indoors.

My brother-in-law purchased one in Kentucky about 3 weeks ago and has had it to the range twice...loves it. Sights are great too.

I'm not sure why everyone seems to love the big dot sight. Any sight that is a night sight would be quick to pick up, and if you're shooting up close and personal who is going to use sights anyway? I just rather have a night sight that is a real blade that you can do all of the above with, and STILL aim a precise shot with.

I understand your problems with the big dot, but beyond 15 yards, short barrelled handgun sights are worthless for precise shots. IMO, the big dots are as precise as any of the non-pinned front sights and better than the ramps that were so prevalent in the 80s and 90s.

Thanks guys. I'll hold out for my locals to get one in. Quoted price was $880 plus tribute. Frank Jr.

Bud's online gun store has 'em for $810. That's what I paid for one a few weeks ago.
heh heh - got a little Nightguard collection going. The 310 is on the bottom. I put some grips from a 327PC on it. Feels great and shoots well.

More I look at 310's the more I think I don't want one, they remind me too much of the 442 and to me are over price. I think the 4" 610 is a better buy, and with the same grips would be IMHO a better CCW of the two.
Also I have begun to think the 3" 610-2 LH is also a better buy even at $1200 then these super alloy light weights. I don't think they wear as well as the SS or HCS guns will. Again just my opinion and in the real world not worth much.
Looked at a nice (so to speak) Rossi 4" 357 K frame knock off and for $350 OTD price was almost tempted. But the Taurus name below it, just kills it for me.
