Default Sweet 617

Hello,
Shot my 617 4" today for the first time. Man does it shoot straight! There is no recoil at all...only way I could tell the round went off is because of the noise! Anyway nice piece of hardware in a 10 round config. Did notice that if I lose count and hit the brass a second time it wants to stick in the cylinder when I unload. Not a problem just have to push a little more on the ejector. Of course never had that with a center fire. After shooting the 617 which is outfitted with rubbers, I shot my 19 that has target grips. I love the look of the wood but I think I am going goodyear with the 19.

Congrats Alpha!! I shot my brand new 617 6" today also for the first time. Used the CCI 40 grain mini-mags. What ammo did you use and how did you like it if I may ask please.I was suprised in that when I hit cylinder eject the brass flew all over the place and fell on the floor.

Love the revolver and wish you all the best with it. Next, I want to order the speedloader for it asap.

Shorty,
I was using some inexpensive Remmington stuff...shot ok. I like Federal better, have not used much CCI. These things are a hoot!

Yes want to get the DS-10. Although I did not feel that loading the 617 was too much of a core when doing it by hand. Probably because we are on our honeymoon.

Ah, a new 617... accessorize time!!

Let's see - a Wolff full power hammer spring and a reduced power return spring - maybe an 'adjustable' strain screw to add the proper pre-load to that hammer spring for no ftf's (The OEM strain screws seem to go into the Wolff spring's 'Power Rib' a bit, lessening their pre-load... a #6-32 x .5" SS Allen headed set screw, 2/$.56 bagged at Home Depot, is perfect.). Then - the obvious - the HiViz green f.o. front sight - their #SW617 - great searchlight-like front sight. The Ahrends' 'Retro Targets' and the 'DS-10' Speedloader - and x60 loading plate round it out. And... you thought you were through spending moola? The HiViz was last here - and that was in the summer, most of a year after buying my 617.

Mine works quite well with Federal 'Auto Match' and Federal el-cheapo copper plated from WallyWorld - even better with Federal 'Game Shok', but ween it on the cheap stuff. Congratulations on a great purchase. Remember - you cannot shoot it 'too much'... you can always clean the cobwebs off the other revolvers...

Got my 617 about a month ago - immediately added Hogue cocobolos and a DS10 and block. Also got the DS J8, block and same grips for my new 63. The 63 grips are due in on the 24th. Both .22s are great shooters and loads of fun!

Default Great grips and great info

Nice grips in the pics guys. Is there any info our there on revolvers as far as a brakedown on what each component does? I like your suggestions on the springs and such and would like to study up on what there functions are. Perhaps its obvious when you get into it but I alway like a diagram and info when available. Ok, I admit I do read the directions occasionally. Thanks in advance.

I'm glad to see you opted for the 617 over the 317 you were considering a few months ago. Smart move.

I too enjoy my 617 4", but enjoy shooting the 317 as well. I managed to get a 1974 K17 in 6" last week, but have not taken it to the range yet.
