Info on my model 37-1
 

I know this isn't a collector's item or anything, but I bought this off my grandmother a few months back and gave her $350 for it.

It's a model 37-1 serial number BFK55**.

I know it looks a little rough in the picture but it's actually in great shape. Looks to only have been fired a few times and the picture looks bad because of oil residue on it. There's a little ding on the clyinder, but other than that and a few drag marks on the clyinder, it looks really nice in person. I've been carrying it as my BUG in a Desantis Superfly and really like the gun. Haven't tried it at the range yet, but it locks up really tight and I'm betting ti will be a good shooter for a snubby.

Can anybody give me an approximate born on date and did I get a decent deal on it for $350. She acutally offered it to me for $300, but I felt guilty since it was my grandmother and gave her $350 for it.

I'm sure it's not a real old model or anything but she didn't really have any history to give me on it, so I figured I'd ask here.

I'm sure it would polish up very nice, but since I've been carrying it as my BUG, I've not really bothered to try and make it look nice.

Again, the picture doesn't really do it justice. It looks really nice in person. No pits or anything and I do have the factory grips. No box or instructions though.

I put the Hogue grips on it when I got it because the factory grips just were too darn small for me to hold onto it. :) The factory grips are still in nice shape. I'm guessing she had it for at least 10-12 years and she carried it in her purse. I don't think it had been cleaned until I got it from her, but it looks really nice right now. What look like pits in the picture are just oil/cloth/lint marks.

I've always been a semi-auto guy but I really like this revolver. I always carry it as my BUG and sometimes by itself if I'm too lazy to IWB my SA XD9 service. I haven't shot it yet, but plan on taking it to the range with me one of these days.

With a BFK number, sounds like late 1990, but it must have been at the tail end of the -1's, -2's supposedly started in 1990 too.
You did fine, and besides, don't you want your Gram to think well of you?

Haha, exactly what I was hoping for. I didn't think this was an old model, but Grams had no idea how long she had it. Gramps bought it for her (she didn't remember when) and she just kept carrying it after he passed on.

I knew it was probably a relatively recent model, but at that price figured it was probably a better buy than the new models. It's had some rounds through it, but it looks to be in good shape. I don't even know if it was new/used when they bought it, but it seems like it's really solid snubby.

Yeah, when she offered it to me for $300, I gave her $350 for it. Also gave her a big can of OC spray to 'replace' it. I don't think she ever liked carrying the gun, but she did it until gramps passed on.

I know she would have willed it to me since I'm the only one into guns, but I figured she might as well get some $$$ out of it while she could enjoy it.

You have a fine revolver there,,,
Price is about right, But could be $50 higher at a shop if in mint condition.
Here's mine,,, It's usually with me at all times while the bigger ones are resting in the safe!

One more time, the only limitation on the accuracy of S&W snubs is the practise time/effort put in by the shooter...right on out to 25 yards or more. So saying 'good shooter for a snubby' rests on a misconception. :)

Put those Hogues back in the drawer, put the service grips back on , and get yourself a Tyler Tee...then you will be good to go, and look sharp at the same time. :) I am 6'3" with XXL hands, and that has been my experience. but, YMMV....

Yeah, I don't have real large hands, I just didn't feel like I could keep a good grasp on it with the factory grips. The Hogues just feel really good to me. Tell you what. When I take it to the range, I'll take both sets of grips with me and give them both a try. :) I know a .38 doesn't have that much recoil, but I've never shot a snubbie and I'm sure it's worse than the 4" I'm used to shooting. I just wasn't comfortable that I had a good grip on it with the factory grips. It just felt so tiny in my hand.

The Hogues definitely make it harder to conceal, but I usually OC a SA XD in either 9mm or 45ACP and this is usually my BUG, so I'm not worried about having to conceal it. Only time I CC is in the winter when it's easy to wear a coat or something to cover them. One of my XDs is on my strong side and the snubbie is sticking out of my jeans pocket on my weak side.

I definitely like it, it just hasn't made it to the range with me yet. I'm currently infatuated with my MP15-22, so I'm not sure how soon I'll be shooting something else. :D
