J Frame triggers

My early '80s M-38 has the standard smooth .312"---10/32" OEM trigger...that has sharp edges that are painful when shooting with out gloves. I don't want to grind it because of possible draw of temper and ruination of case hardened finish.
I shot 130 gr. FMJ standard load factory yesterday and it was not fun. Luckily my new Shield 45 fits the GandG belt slide bikini just fine and is my new daily carry. The M-38 is smaller and I'd still like it as a carry piece, but not with it's current trigger.
If I had to blast a bad guy with it, I'd be the one howling in pain.
Checking all the major parts houses for an alternative trigger that's thinner, e.g. 6/32"---.1875" and smooth rounded contour, or ANY alternative triggers...except a .240" serrated flat face, like the one on my old M-19, in the white...has produced nothing.

Either send the gun back to S&W or buy a new J-Frame. The current production J-frames are better than they ever were in my opinion for Alloy Frame guns.

Buy a new one and retire the old one.

I would just grind the edges and not worry about the finish on a carry gun. If you can't bring yourself to that put the 38 back in the safe and buy a newer gun you won't care about.

You can remove the Trigger and soften the edges with a Dremel Sanding drum or slower but effective, a file and emery cloth and/or Arkansas small round stone.

I CAUTION you NOT to attempt with the Trigger in the gun - you will more than likely scratch something. If you do not feel comfortable or are not adept at disassembly and reassembly visit a local Gun Smith. Not a big job.

A GOOD smith can also tune, smooth out and lighten up your trigger pull while still maintaining perfect reliability - as long as he is competent.

Agree. My late model 642-1 has a great trigger-wide,smooth,with soft edges;very comfortable. My Model 60 trigger ( the same trigger used on early allow frames J frames), will cut me up if I shoot it too much.

Agree wit Chief38. Remove the trigger then dremel it down. No harm no foul.
