629 Classic Rocky Mountain Hunter
Greetings,
I am new on here and am enjoying looking around.
One of my favorite Smith's is a 629 Classic. It has a picture of an elk lazered on the right side of the frame and "Rocky Mountain Hunter" Lazered on the right side of the barrell. Barrell is 6.5" ported, not the power port but length wise slits on either side of the front sight. I have had it for 10 years and have never seen or heard of one like it before or since. How rare is it? I would never sell it but would like to know what it might be worth. Has anyone ever seen one?

First, welcome to the forum!
Gart Brothers Sporting Goods sold a couple of batches of these over the years in their stores. If yours is 10 plus years old it is probably product code #103654. The Standard Catalog of S&W (3rd edition) says that they were made for Gart Brothers w/ 6.5" barrel, round butt, 300 made in 1996. Serial numbers should start with RMH.
I think I saw another batch of these years later with MIM parts and likely internal locks.
Can't really speculate on current value.

Thanks,Yes, that pretty well describes my gun. 629-4 Round butt, Serial # RMH (low 300's). It does not have an internal lock, the firing pin is on the hammer and the cylinder latch button is the new angled style.
