Default Which is less common: 25-9 or 624?

Greetings, all:

Which is the less common gun, a 4-inch Model 25-9 or a 4-inch Model 624? Any idea of actual production numbers of each?

Thanks, and Semper Fi.

Ron H.

Ron, I would go with the 624 personally. The 25-9 is it isn the mountain gun configuration? If so they made plenty of them. The 624 is a little harder to come by especially in my neck of the woods.

Sir, thanks for the input. The 25-9 (mine, anyway) is just an updated 25-5--it looks exactly the same.

Thanks again, and Semper Fi.

The 4", engineering revision 9, Model 25 is much more rare than a 4" 624.

The 4" "standard" 25-9 is not easy to find ! I have been searching for years.

I did find a 6" though.

As colt_saa points out the 25-9 is an engineering change and not a specific "model". The 5" bead blasted-unfluted cylinder 25-9 version is a completely different animal !

Guys, thanks for the info--very interesting. Any idea how many regular -9s Smith made? FWIW, I bought this one new in July 1990, serial number BEV19xx. Still have the original grips, box, tools, etc.

Thanks again, and Semper Fi.

Here is a 25-9 5". I was informed that "only" about 3,000 were made.
