Default Night Sights for a Model 19

Anyone know where I can find tritium night sights for a model 19 - 6". I recently obtained a model 19 that was my dad's issued weapon when he worked LE in his younger years. I've been doing some research on the combat magnums and I'd like to update the weapon a bit with the wooden combat grips instead of his 80s target grips and a set of tritium sights. I didn't see any on trijicons page, which is where I usually order sights for my autoloaders. Mep sights say they fit, and the rear sight looks right, but the front is the wrong size/shape. Any thoughts or ideas?

Also, this is my first S&W and my first post as a member here on your forum, so I just wanted to say hey. I've done some searching around your forum and found a wealth of knowledge on rounds to start running through her both in .38 and .357. Look forward to taking it out to the range.

Mental picture of how I'd like the weapon to turn out:

Though that's a J Frame above... that's the idea.

Welcome to the forum. I think you should take it to a
gunsmith for the front sight. Looks like you have come
up with the perfect carry gun. Don

Welcome to the Forum,
The revolver you have pictured is not wearing a S&W factory adjustable sight. It has the Extreme Duty fixed sight from Cylinder & Slide. That rear sight is not available with tritium inserts. However you could purchase one from C&S and send it off to the custom shop at PT Night Sights where tritium vials could be installed.

Meprolight offers a replacement rear blade that goes on the existing factory adjustable sight body. My model 627 has a Meprolight rear sight blade on it and a front sight made for the S&W Interchangeable Front Sight (IFS) system.

Since you do not picture your model 19, we have no idea if it has a attached front sight, red ramp front sight or pinned front sight. Meprolight makes two different tritium front sights. One is meant to replace a pinned front sight while the other allows you to knock the colored insert and glue in a piece containing a tritium lamp.

If your front sight is attached and has no colored insert, the revolver could go to PT Night Sight's custom shop and they will install a tritium lamp, or you can have a gunsmith grind the existing sight off and cut the barrel rib for a pinned in sight. With a blue revolver this is no big deal. If the revolver is nickel it is another problem.

The grips pictured in your photo above are Hogue finger groove grips made of Coco Bolo. That J-frame, model 36 has a round butt frame. Odds are pretty good that an older 6" model 19 will have a square butt frame. S&W did not go all round butt until mid 1990s.

Wow, that's a lot of info! Exactly what I'm looking for. First the model 19 IS blued. The front sight post is a red ramp. The grip is a square butt frame. I do not see any pins in the front sight like the one I can see in the pic of your 627. I like the sights in the picture because of the low profile they present. I checked to see what it would cost to have tritium viles installed in the extreme duty fixed sights and don't think I have that to spend right now. But I will most likely pick a set of those sights up and install them myself in the not so distant future. Probably will need to stone the front sight down a bit from the look of it. I will definitely be investing in two things this week. Hogue wooden grips in Coco Bolo (because those have to be the most gorgeous grips I've ever seen) and a working digital camera.

The set shown on the top of this web page, is the set you want if you wish to NOT have to replace or machine the front sight. The top set I've installed 1 1/2 dozen of over the years and never had a come back. In fact, they're on 3 guns of mine currently and on both of our night stand wheel guns. A 696 and a 66.

Tooltech can do the work also. P-T makes a good product and they do good work but I think Tooltech does a better job. Tooltech also uses Trijicon products which in my experience have been brighter and better made than P-T.
