I don't think any of the D frame Colts were hammerless, but all were offered with an optional hammer shroud.

There is a company called "Cobra" that makes a 642 look alike, and it actually looks fairly close to it, I have never shot one and would have no idea how the quality would be, but there are other brands out there.

I just wanted to clarify something, you asked for other brands, not other quality brands. I would never suggest buying any cobra product.....cobra is the same as Raven, Larsen, Jennings, Bryco, Astro.....etc....I guess their names change every so often due to the business going under.

Taurus used to make a concealed hammer (not hammerless) version. I wouldn't recommend buying a Taurus though. Quality and QA is too spotty.

Ruger makes an LCR Little Carbon Revolver. I've not live fired one, but dry fired on the other day. Very nice trigger. Although the lcr is new and has no track record, Ruger has a quality record. They can had for exatly The same dollars as a sw airwieght hammerless.

Ah yes, I forgot about the LCR as it's so new. Just had a chance to handle one in a local shop last week. I was a little taken back by the poly trigger group (and butt ugly looks). However seems like a NICE revolver from a very respectable company. Lighter than a S&W air weight for a little less $ ( in that shop anyway).

Have 3 LCRs for myself and other family members. Obviously I like them.
The combination of the Hogue "Tamer" grip (not made for J frames, yet) and the polymer frame do an excellent job of minimizing felt recoil of +P ammo in a 13.5 oz revolver.
The stock trigger pull is better (lighter) on the LCR than the S&W J frame, a possible make or break feature for people with weak hands.
I've had problems with the clearcoat on S&W 642 revolvers - had one refinished twice. I think the LCR finish(es) is/are much more rugged. Time will tell I guess.
I don't think the LCR is butt ugly at all. (Some people like "butts".) The early Glocks were considered by most to be ugly. Now most have accepted their looks.
