Default Just picked up a model 29, a few questions.

I just picked up a model 29 yesterday for a steal.

The only only modification that I can tell has been made is the magna porting.

There is a tiny bit of rotational play in the cylinder when the bolt is engaged. Just how much play (if any) is acceptable? How much does S&W generally charge for a tune up? This is the first .44 mag revolver I've ever owned. What type of problems do I need to watch out for on this model?

Thanks,
Tom

Default Is there rotational play when the hammer is cocked.

This is the pertinent question as both the bolt and the hand are involved in cylinder positioning.

I can feel a little play. I don't have any way of quantifying an exact amount of play, but if I had to guestimate, I would say the outer diameter maybe can be moved 1/64". It's not much, but I can feel/hear it when I manipulate the cylinder when the hammer is cocked.

Normal, nothing to worry about.

Nice looking gun, have your shot it yet?
